Our Prayer for the Week

Our families play an important role in shaping us and forming our self-identity. In family life, we find a safe place to discover who we are and who God calls us to be. But sometimes the influences from outside our family can make us unrecognisable to those who know us best. These outside influences can lead us away from God, or they can lead us toward a deeper relationship with God. In the Gospel reading read in Church yesterday (Mark 6:1-6) we see that the people of Nazareth could not recognise Jesus as the Son of God. They could know him only as the son of Mary.

Try to find some time this week as a family to talk about the people and events that are influencing members of your family. Acknowledge that many of these people and events are positive influences, helping us be better people and leading us to a deeper relationship with God. Jesus was a person who allowed his relationship with God to be the most important thing in his life. This led many people to have faith in him as the Son of God.

God, in Baptism you called us by name and made us members of your people, the Church.

Help all your people to know their vocation in life and to respond by living a life of holiness.

Send your Spirit to guide and strengthen us that we may serve each other

following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ, in whose name we offer this prayer. Amen.

Weekly News and Updates from the Headteacher

Annual Parent/Carer Survey

Thank you to the 85 parents who completed this year’s survey. I have shared a copy of the results on Dojo, which are overwhelmingly positive. Thank you to the parents who took the time to add an additional comment. I have not included these in full, but here is a summary of the comments and suggestions made. All of these will be carefully considered in consultation with the Governors and our Leadership Team.

Comments:

This year has been great in all aspects.

I love the Christian environment.

Excellent support and engagement at all levels across the school.

Thank you for all the support our child receives from the school.

This school does great things. The school staff and PTA are doing some great things. Thank you to all.

Thank you for your continued support this term with my children, they have really flourished this year thanks to the time and interest staff have shown in their development.

I am very happy that my child is very happy at St. Austin’s. Great job by all the staff. God bless you all.

This is a fantastic school, which our children enjoy attending and I feel they receive an excellent education. Great staff, who are approachable.

St. Austin’s is a good school and my child enjoys their time there.

Suggestions:

Improve communication and information sharing on Dojo – too many inconsistencies.

More after school clubs and a wider variety – clubs running for longer than 6 weeks.

Please could an ‘After school club’ be a consideration?

Communication with parents could be improved – written and verbal.

Notice boards to allow better communication of events.

Use of a PA system/loud hailer at busy events to build some atmosphere/coordination.

More social events rather than meetings and forums to build better parental links and to foster inclusion.

Could a one-way system be considered for drop off and pick up?

Parking near school continues to be a problem. Could the double yellow lined areas be coned off to prevent dangerous parking?

Move Up Morning

Children will get the chance to spend time with their new class teacher on Wednesday morning.

Celebration Evening

We invite all parents to stay behind after school on Wednesday afternoon and join in with our Celebration Evening. This is a relaxed and informal opportunity to look through the work your child has completed this year in their classroom as well as call into their new classroom and introduce yourself to their teacher for next year. No appointment necessary. We will be here from 3.30pm until 5.00pm so call in when it is convenient for you.

We look forward to seeing you.

Safeguarding Updates

Water Safety

Water safety is important all through the year, but more so when the weather turns warmer and more children are tempted to swim/play in open water sites. Drowning accidents are especially high in the summer months and over the last few years, there has been too many tragedies that could have been avoided. In 2022 there were 35 accidental child fatalities reported, which means the equivalent of a classroom full of children drowned!

The Wakefield Safeguarding Children’s Partnership website  contains key safety messages for children and young people about how to stay safe in and around the water, and additional advice and information about what to do if they get into difficulty. There is also information about water safety on holiday. Please use the link for more information.

School Holiday Tips

Wakefield Council’s website has some useful tips and guidance for parents for keeping your children entertained through the Summer holidays. From trails, to parks to castles as well as some money saving tips this website is a great resource for parents.

Attendance
We are now in the last 2 weeks of this academic year and our whole school attendance currently stands at 95.02% which is below our 96% target. Let’s do all we can over this next 2 weeks to increase our percentage, your support is greatly appreciated!

PTA News

Do you have any suggestions for our PTA for next academic years calendar of events? Why not send any suggestions to Contact office on Class Dojo.

Remember – we are always looking for new members!
