Our Prayer for the week ahead
Lord, we thank you for the unique gifts of every child at St. Austin’s as they return to school to begin a new school year.
Fill them with fresh enthusiasm and hearts that are excited to learn and grow.
Cover them with your enduring love,
Give them the confidence and grace and equip them with the ability to persevere through trials.
Bless the teachers and teaching assistants with wisdom, understanding and a heart to serve as they embark on the journey together.
We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Message from the Trust CEO in response to the recent news headline regarding the safety of school buildings
‘I would like to inform parents that no schools in the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust have been contacted by the DFE about this issue and have not been asked to close any areas. The most recent surveys carried out in Trust schools indicated that no RAAC was found. Please also be aware that the Trust works closely with accredited building consultants who were commissioned in early 2023 to carry out premises surveys in all Trust schools, and no structural issues were identified in these surveys.
This is obviously a very serious situation and pupils and staff safety must come first. We will therefore be seeking further professional advice regarding all schools in the Trust and following new DfE guidance received yesterday to check whether RAAC has been used in the construction of any part of our buildings. If RAAC is identified, we will let you know straight away.
Any contingency plans will prioritise the continuation of education and ensure that, if RAAC is identified, any impact on pupils is kept to an absolute minimum. The safety of pupils and staff remains our priority.’
We would like to welcome all of our school community back to St Austin’s this new academic year. Children are settling in quickly to their new classes and teachers and it is lovely to see children arriving smartly dressed in correct uniform and ready for learning. We would also like to welcome to our school staff, Miss Steade, Miss Taylor and Mrs Warne.
If you know anybody thinking about St Austin’s for their child(ren) who will be starting school in September 2024 then this is a great opportunity for them to see the school and ask any questions. Please let them know about the open day we plan to hold on Wednesday 22nd November with tours at 9.30am, 2pm and 4pm. The Admission Policy for 2024-2025 can be found on our school website.
Attendance is a crucial part of a child’s school life. They miss out on so much even if they only have one day off. If your child is poorly, or has an appointment, please let the office know either by calling school or sending us a message via Dojo or email. We do require evidence of any appointments to be able to authorise leave from school. If there is no valid reason given for the absence, it will be recorded as unauthorised. Later this term we are hoping to be able to send out an overview for the year for school trips and prices.
As a school we are aware that the current living cost crisis is putting additional pressure on families. We will carefully plan any school trips and will also look at ways of using the local area, to try and reduce costings for visits. Please do contact school if you require support or help with trip payments. As a school we want to offer all children opportunities to learn outside of the classroom and the benefits of school visits. A Residential visit will be planned for Year 6 pupils this year.
Staff Training days
We have four training days left for this academic year (children NOT in school):
Friday 20th October (school will close for the October half-term holiday at 3.15pm on Thursday 19th October)
Wednesday 20th December (school will close for the Christmas holiday at 3.15pm on Tuesday 19th December)
Thursday 28th March (school will close for the Easter holiday at 3.15pm on Wednesday 27th March)
Monday 22nd July (school will close for the summer holiday at 3.15pm on Friday 19th July)
Breakfast Club has now launched. We will operate from 8.00am – 8.45am here in school and have capacity for 30 children to attend on a daily basis. Parents are asked to book their child on via School Money – first come first served basis. The daily cost is £3.00. The Club will be run by members of staff working in school. Breakfast will be served and consist of cereal, toast and a drink. The Club will be based in our KS2 hall and the children will have the opportunity to socialise with their peers. At 8.45am FS and KS1 children will be collected from the hall and taken to their classrooms by a teaching assistant. KS2 children will make their way to their classrooms. All children will be in class for the start of our school day – 8.50am. This is very much a trial for the first half-term and will keep you updated with developments towards the end of September/beginning of October. Breakfast club bookings are now live on School Money, if you would like to register your child for a place please register and pay via School Money.
After School Clubs
The following after school clubs will launch next week, week commencing 11th September. If you would like your child to take part in an after school club please register and pay online via your child’s school money account. The clubs are only open to the year groups stated. After school clubs are charged at £12.00 for the 6 weeks of clubs. Clubs will run from 3.15 -4.15pm.
Colouring Chaos – MONDAYS available to children in Years 1 & 2
Book Club – MONDAYS available to children in Years 5 & 6
Choir – TUESDAYS available to children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6
Football Club – WEDNESDAYS available to children in years 3, 4 , 5 , 6
Multi Skills Club – THURSDAYS available to children in Years 1 and 2
