Our Prayer for the Week

The Solemnity of The Body and Blood of Jesus

Yesterday, the catholic church celebrated the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. At one time, this day was called Corpus Christi, the Latin words for “the Body of Christ.”

The Gospel reading is the account of the Last Supper found in the Gospel of Mark. Mark describes only those elements he believes to be most essential to the Christian Eucharist: Jesus took bread, blessed the bread, broke the bread, and shared it with his disciples. Similar words and actions follow as Jesus shares the chalice with his disciples. This bread now shared is Jesus’ own body. Those who drink from the chalice are invited to share in a new covenant which will be sealed by Jesus’ own blood. This Gospel reminds us that the Eucharist is a memorial of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. We believe that Jesus is truly present to us in the elements of bread and wine. Each time we celebrate this sacrament, we prepare for the Kingdom of God.

We keep in our prayers the children who have recently received the sacrament of the Eucharist in their First Holy Communion.

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You for the gift of Your Holy Body and Blood through which we get strengthened body, soul and mind. We offer You our undivided love and also service to our brothers and sisters as it is Your Holy will. We pray this in the Name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Weekly News and Updates from the Headteacher

First Holy Communion

There will be a special Mass of Thanksgiving in school on Monday 10th June at 9.30am. We will be inviting the children to wear their First Holy Communion clothes during this Mass, which will be attended by all Y4 children. We encourage parents and carers of our First Holy Communion Children to consider joining us for this Mass.

Statutory Assessments – Summer 2024

Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check

This national test takes place this month. Children are tested on their fluency in times tables. Keep using Times Table Rockstars daily to get your speed and fluency up! Daily practice is essential at this stage.

Year 1 Phonics

This national test also takes place this month. Daily attendance and nightly reading is the best way to ensure your child knows all their sounds.

Parent Forum Meeting – Wednesday 5th June – 9am

Please do join us if you are free. This will be an informal meeting which gives you the chance to ask questions, make suggestions and get to know other parents. It lasts for approximately an hour and I hope to see you there!

I will be seeking parents’ views on communication between school and parents. We have a weekly online newsletter, a website, the School Story page on Dojo and Class Dojo pages. I am interested to hear parents’ views and how we might streamline what we share with you to avoid information overload!

Safeguarding Updates

Child Safety Advice

The Child Accident Prevention (CAPT) have recently published the following reminders to help parents and carers keep children safe.

Is Your Garden Child Friendly
Are you lucky enough to have a garden? Or can your child play in the garden of family or friends? Outdoor play is a great way to burn off energy but not every garden is child-friendly. So, make sure chemicals like weed killer and fertiliser are kept away from curious youngsters and garden tools are locked away in a shed. Test your garden safety knowledge by trying CAPT’s quiz.
