Spiritual Reflection – Being a Disciple of Jesus

‘Seeing Jesus coming towards him, John said, “Look, there is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. This is the one I spoke of when I said: A man is coming after me who ranks before me because He existed before me. I did not know Him myself, and yet it was to reveal Him to Israel that I came baptising with water.”

John also declared, “I saw the Spirit coming down on Him from heaven like a dove and resting on Him. I did not know Him myself, but He who sent me to baptise with water had said to me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and rest is the one who is going to baptise with the Holy Spirit.’ Yes, I have seen and I am the witness that He is the Chosen One of God.”’

This is the Gospel reading that was read in Church at the weekend on the 2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time.

In this reading when John the Baptist sees Jesus, he immediately tells everyone that he saw the Spirit descend upon Jesus. John gives witness about who Jesus is, to others.

John refers to the Spirit coming down on Jesus like a dove. This is significant as the dove is a symbol of peace and therefore the message is that Jesus will bring peace.

We can see that John the Baptist is an excellent example of what it means to be a disciple. Through our baptism we are called to make Jesus known to all, by the words and deeds in our daily lives. How can we model to those around us that we are a disciple of Jesus and in turn encourage them to consider their words and deeds, so that they show kindness and compassion to others?

School Uniform Reminder

A polite reminder to all parents of children in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2, the school book bag is part of your child’s school uniform. ALL children in these years groups should have a book bag and not a rucksack or other bag. The book bags fit inside your child’s drawer within the classroom.  School do sell book bags for £5.00, and can be purchased by logging on to your child’s School Money account and visiting the Shop section.

Children in Reception, Year 1 & 2  – In line with our new reading scheme, it is also imperative  that you return your child’s reading book to school EVERY Wednesday. As school does not have the resources to purchase extra unnecessary books, it does mean that if you fail to return your book this has an impact on other children receiving books to go home with that weekend. Books that are not returned by Friday morning will be charged at £8.00 and an order will be placed to immediately replace it. Please consider setting yourself a reminder each week to ensure that the books are returned to school on time.

Game Finder

Finding games for children which are appropriate for their age, which work on the devices the children use and the children will actually enjoy playing can be a minefield, particularly when parents are being bombarded with the ‘but everyone else is playing this game’ guilt trip. Game Finder is a new (free) service available from Taming Gaming which walks parents through various aspects, such as how old is your child? What devices do they have? What types of games do they like to play? And then gives a list of recommendations of suitable games. I’ve used this a few times and it is brilliant, you can find Game Finder HERE.
