Spiritual Reflection: Achieving Greatness – Third Sunday of Advent (Year A)
“Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” Matthew 11:11
Imagine having these words, spoken by our Lord, being spoken about us. But, in fact, they are! We are among the “least in the kingdom of heaven” when we share in the grace of Christ and remain members of His glorious Kingdom.
One clear message that our Lord is speaking in the line above is that those who are now enjoying the fullness of Heaven, seeing God face-to-face, are great indeed. But another clear message from our Lord is that this greatness can begin to be lived now, as we journey through life.
Too often we take up our identity in many meaningless things. We seek “greatness” through our personal and selfish achievements, our abilities, looks, financial status, and the like. But none of these things makes us truly great. Greatness is found solely in being a member of the Body of Christ, the Church, and thus being a member of God’s Kingdom.
During the season of Advent, we are given the shining example of Saint John the Baptist. And as we ponder his life, we must also ponder his preaching. The central messages of his preaching were twofold. First, he called everyone to repentance for their sins. This message must ring true in our lives today just as it did in the days of John’s preaching. But his second message was to point us to Christ. Jesus was the exclusive purpose of St. John’s life, and his preaching concluded by pointing his followers to our Lord.
Reflect, today, upon the fact that Saint John the Baptist continues to send forth his message today to us. As we approach the Christmas season, let us turn our eyes to Jesus, the source of mercy and forgiveness, and hear Him inviting us to the greatness to which we are called.
God in heaven, you sent to us Saint John the Baptist to preach repentance and to call us to Yourself. Open our minds and hearts, dear Lord, to the message John spoke and help us to more fully heed his words so as to share in the greatness of life to which we are called.
KS2 Carol Service – Wednesday 14th December 2.15 pm. There will be a short service on Wednesday 14th December at 2.15pm, some children will be doing a reading and there will be a number of songs performed by the children. Parents are invited to come along and watch by prebooking a ticket using this link:
Seating spaces are limited in the hall and so it has been necessary to set a limit on the number of tickets available to parents. For that reason we have asked that parents book no more than 2 tickets per FAMILY, ideally, where possible , to allow more parents to attend, one ticket per family.
You will need to present your eticket to staff in order to gain entry.
Christmas Parties – Friday 16th December – during the afternoon session in school time, children will have a Christmas Party in their classes. Children are invited to wear non uniform on this day. Please do remember that the weather is particularly cold, so no strappy tops or dresses please as children will be playing outside at lunch and break.
Online Pantomine – Monday 19th December – as a special treat, children will be watching an online Pantomine on the morning of Monday 19th December.
Advent Crafts – Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 – Monday 19th December 2pm – parents invited -£1 per child payable on School Money
Parents of children in the above year groups are invited to come into school to take part in a number of Advent Crafts activities with your child. We kindly request that all parents log onto your child’s School Money account and pay the £1 contribution towards the costs of the resources. This payment is requested from all parents, regardless if you are able to attend or not, as all children will still take part in this activity.
There will be multiple crafting activities taking place, each activity will be in a 20 minute block; once that activity has been completed, children and parents, will move classrooms to do the next activity. For parents who have children in multiple year groups, please refer to the table below. This table shows which classroom your child will be in at which time so you could do activities with both of your children throughout the entirety of the session.

Thank you to all who attended, donated and supported our Christmas Fair on Friday. It was a huge success and was wonderful to see so many enjoying themselves. The Fair was dedicated in the memory of Tara Keaney, a past PTA member and parent to Oliver and Eleanor, who sadly passed away. Tara did dedicate so much of her time to fundraising and supporting our school.
The final counting is still happening, but we can confirm that the fair raised a staggering approximately £1200!! The PTA have kindly agreed to use this money to assist families of children on Year 6 going on the residential trip to help reduce the cost of the trip. A special mention and thanksto our amazing PTA members for their hard work and support in making the fair such a success.
